Accounts and sync
Start without an account, save to a free one to keep your work, and open it on any device. What syncs and when, signing out, and deleting it.
You can write, style and check a resume without an account. An account is what keeps it: your work is saved outside this browser, and every device you sign in on has the same resumes.
When you are asked
Rejarsume asks you to sign in or create an account at three moments, and the dialog says which one it is:
- Save, beside the editor's save indicator. A guest sees it there for as long as the work is in this browser only.
- Export, in any format, and Export as zip on a resume's card.
- Download backup, in Settings.
Closing the dialog changes nothing. Your work stays in this browser, and nothing is exported. Signing in carries on with what you asked for, so the file you were exporting downloads once you are in.
Sign in, at the foot of the sidebar, opens the same dialog at any time.
Signing in
There are three ways, and an account made one way signs in that way:
- Continue with Google, in a popup window.
- Email, with a password of at least eight characters. Forgot password? sends a link to reset it.
- Phone, with a 6-digit code sent by text message. Write the number with its country code, such as
+44 7700 900123.
The work you did as a guest
It moves into the account. The first time you sign in, everything in this browser is saved to your account, and from then on it is in both places.
If this browser still holds someone else's resumes, because their session ended without signing out, those are removed from this browser first. They stay in their account.
What syncs
- Every resume and cover letter, archived or not, with its style and custom CSS.
- Your groups, and which group each resume is in.
- Every image and font you have stored.
- The template you last chose in the new resume dialog, and whether you started from the example or a blank page.
The interface language, the colour theme, whether the sidebar is collapsed and which tours you have seen are not synced. They belong to the browser and are kept in its local storage.
When it syncs
A moment after you change something, when you come back to the tab, when the network returns, and once a minute while the tab is open. Sync now, in the account menu at the foot of the sidebar, does it at once.
The editor's save indicator says where the open resume is:
- Saved means it is in this browser and in your account.
- Syncing means it is in this browser and on its way to your account.
- Saved here means you are offline. It goes to your account when you reconnect.
- Not synced means your account could not be updated. It is tried again in a minute, and the account menu says why.
One resume on two devices
Each resume, group, image and font is settled on its own, and the later change wins. Opening a resume is not a change, so a device that opens an old copy does not overwrite newer work done elsewhere.
When a resume you have open changes on another device:
- With nothing unsaved in the editor, it shows the new version and says so.
- With edits not yet saved, your edits stay. They are the later change, so they replace the other version, and a message tells you.
If a change you made here is replaced by a later one from another device, a message names the resume.
Offline
The editor works the same with no network. Changes wait in this browser and go to your account when you reconnect, and the save indicator says Saved here until they do. Once the app is installed it opens offline too. See Install and work offline.
Signing out
Sign out is in the account menu. It sends what is waiting first, then removes your resumes from this browser. They stay in your account, and signing in again on any device brings them back. On a shared computer, that is the point.
If something could not be sent, because you are offline, you are asked first (Sign out with unsynced changes?). Sign out anyway loses those changes.
Deleting your account
In Settings, under Account, choose Delete account…. Confirm that it is you the way you signed in, with your password, with Google, or with a code sent to your phone, and the account is deleted:
- every resume, cover letter, group, image and font in it, on every device;
- then the sign-in itself;
- then this browser's copy.
Another device that is still open lets go of its copy at its next sync. This cannot be undone, so download a backup first if you want a copy for yourself. A backup opens in Rejarsume with or without an account. See Backup and restore.
If the sign-in itself could not be removed, the message says so. Your data is already gone; sign in again and delete the account once more to remove it.
Without accounts
A copy of Rejarsume set up without accounts never asks you to sign in. It keeps everything in the browser, the foot of the sidebar says Saved in this browser only, and a backup is the only copy of your work. See Where your work is kept.
