# The tours

> The two short tours that run the first time you open the library and the editor, what each points out, how to skip one, and how to take it again.

The first time you open the library and the first time you open the editor, a short
tour points out what a new person would otherwise miss. Each is a few steps, each
step is a card beside the part of the screen it describes, and neither blocks you:
you can skip it at any point.

## Moving through a tour

Each card has **Next**, **Prev**, **Skip** and, on the last step, **End**. Skipping
or ending a tour counts as having seen it, and it does not run again on its own.

On a narrow screen the editor shows one pane at a time. The steps that describe a
pane then point at the tab that opens it, and the tour opens the pane it is
describing.

## The library tour

- **Start here** points at **New resume**: pick a single-column template, or
import a file you already have. The importer keeps what it cannot typeset and
  does not drop it.
- **Images and fonts are shared** points at the sidebar's **Images** and **Fonts**:
uploaded once, available to every resume, and showing what nothing uses.
- **This is the important one** points at **Settings**: everything lives in this
browser, and a backup is the only thing that survives it being cleared.
- **Everything, from the keyboard** points at the application menu and says that
Ctrl+K, or Cmd+K on a Mac, opens the command palette.

## The editor tour

- **Markdown, and your own CSS** points at the **Code** pane, with its two tabs.
- **Every directive, with an example** points at the Guide button in the Code
pane, which opens the documentation on the format in a new tab.
- **The paper is editable too** points at **Visual** mode, where you click text to
change it and drag blocks to move them.
- **Export is the same document** points at the export controls: the HTML is one
self-contained file, the PDF is that file printed, and the Markdown uses the
  editor's own writer.
- **Four tabs worth knowing** points at the **Style** pane's tabs.
- **Nothing here is one-way** points at undo and redo.

## Taking a tour again

Open the application menu in the bar at the top and choose **Take the tour**. It
starts the tour for the page you are on, the library's in the library and the
editor's in the editor. It runs even if you have seen it.

## What is remembered

Whether you have seen each tour is kept in the browser's local storage, on this
device. A private window, or cleared site data, shows the tours again, which is
right: to Rejarsume that is a new device. See [Storage](https://shopsalone.com/en/docs/data/storage.md).
